DC advocates placing anti-Childers ad in “niche” publications
DC Vote, the advocacy group that took a hit last week when congressional leaders said they would abandon the latest effort to get voting rights for the District, is heading out of town to spread the word about the city’s status in Congress and the gun amendment.
Ilir Zherka, DC Vote’s executive director, said the group is targeting Mississippi, which is represented by Rep. Travis Childers (D), a proponent of the gun amendment that was placed on the most-recent D.C. voting rights bill.
The group will place ads on the radio and in “niche print” to get the message out, Zherka said, adding that Nevada also will be targeted. Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) attached the gun amendment to the Senate version of the legislation.
“We’re going down to Mississippi and Nevada and make sure their constituents know what they’re up to,” Zherka said.
