SEC commissioner calls for tougher basketball schedules

SANDESTIN — Mike Slive discovered one downside to serving as the chairman of the NCAA basketball selection committee last spring. It came when he was evaluating his own conference, the SEC.
Had Mississippi State not been an upset winner of the conference basketball tournament, the SEC likely would have had only two teams in the NCAA Tournament. Slive, the conference commissioner, didn’t like that at all.
