Johnson touts mayoral abilty

When Jackson voters go to the polls one week from today, Democratic mayoral candidate Harvey Johnson Jr. hopes they remember one thing: that he knows what it means to be mayor.

In an hour-long interview Monday with The Clarion-Ledger’s editorial board, Johnson said his two terms as Jackson mayor set him apart from his challenger – City Councilman Marshand Crisler – in the Democratic primary runoff.

“I’ve done it before,” Johnson said. “That’s the biggest thing on my resume: that I have been there before and I am a student of government.”

Johnson and Crisler won the most votes of the 10 candidates competing in last week’s Democratic primary. But with neither earning more than 50 percent of the vote, they now head to a runoff next Tuesday
