Reaction to Melton’s death

Leslie Burl McLemore, acting mayor:
“It is clearly a day that we will long remember because Frank Melton, in this community, was really larger than life. He was not just a mayor he was a person known through out this community and throughout this state.”

Councilman Frank Bluntson:
“I just regret his passing. He was a dear friend of mine. I know he loved this city. He also loved the young people in this city and he loved senior citizens … So many people misunderstood Frank for some reason. Frank had a good heart.”

Jeff Good, co-owner of Bravo!, Broad Street Baking Co. and Sal & Mookies:
“For too long, this city has been consumed with the trials and tribulations of one man. Perhaps now we can get on to the real business of the 174,000 citizens of Jackson, particularly the least among us, who desperately need a functional government able to respond to needs and provide basic services in a focused and competent way. We will all miss Frank the evangelist, but few of us could afford much more of Frank the mayor.”
