Bill Minor’s non-apology to Senator Chris McDaniel

By: Magnolia Tribune - May 7, 2009

Senator’s connection corrected

I would not have known about the Senate action had not a tipster from Taylorsville-whose real identity I couldn’t establish-sent me a packet of material in the mail which included a photocopy of a newspaper column written by Sen. Chris McDaniel, (R-Ellisville) extolling Senate passage of SB3270 as a legislative accomplishment, saying it would especially help Denbury. Since it involved commercial use of a major new natural resource (CO2) from which Mississippi would get no sales tax revenue, the tip piqued my old investigative reporter instincts to trace the legislative outcome of SB 3270.

While much of tipster’s information turned out to be correct, he incorrectly said (and I wrote) that the Laurel law firm of which young McDaniel is a member does legal work for Denbury, which has an office in Laurel. The law firm, whose client list includes several oil industry companies, conceded having done work for Denbury in the past, but says it does no longer.
