Coast holds first municipal elections since Katrina hit

Voters across South Mississippi head to the polls for municipal primaries today and several high-profile races should draw considerable interest, as five local mayors aren’t seeking re-election.

This is also the first municipal election since Hurricane Katrina, which might lead to some confusion for voters because they have moved or their precinct has changed. The first election problems of the primary were reported in Gulfport where officials learned over the weekend they had sent cards to some voters in wards 1, 2, 3 and 7 with the wrong voting precincts on them.
