Turnout uncertain for Coast primaries
South Mississippi election officials are gearing up for the first municipal vote since Hurricane Katrina, which they said makes it difficult to know how many voters are still in their cities.
But they said they’re prepared to handle all of the city’s registered voters if need be, even though many might have moved north into the counties or left the area.
Long Beach City Clerk Rebecca Schruff said many of the voting precincts south of the railroad tracks in her city were destroyed in the storm and people may be going to different places to vote, which might create some confusion. She said people who are unsure of where to vote should call the city clerk to find out.
