Little things doom Hogs in rubber game loss to LSU

Inevitably, little things determine a big game between evenly matched big teams.

And so they did to Arkansas’ detriment. The nationally ranked (seventh and 12th by Collegiate Baseball and Baseball America) Razorbacks lost, 4-3 to nationally ranked LSU (fourth and fifth by Collegiate Baseball and Baseball America) Sunday in the rain at Baum Stadium after Saturday splitting a doubleheader up 11-4 and down 5-0.

“It’s the little things that really drive you nuts,” Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn said postgame Sunday.

Those little things were all that separated Sunday the Razorbacks and Tigers, each netting 10 hits, playing errorless ball in abominably slippery conditions and each following OK starting pitching with superb relief pitching by Arkansas’ Mike Bolsinger and Stephen Richards and Tigers Chad Jones and Matty Ott.

So the three-game SEC West series, which was supposed to start Friday night but was rained out with rain then postponing Saturday’s doubleheader from a noon start until 5 p.m., goes 2-1 to the Tigers.
