CL Poll: Jackson tax hike OK with majority
If Jackson voters had the chance on June 2, a majority say they would cast ballots in favor of a proposed 1 percent sales tax increase, according to a Clarion-Ledger poll.
It would take 60 percent voter approval to get the referendum passed.
The poll found 54 percent of likely city voters are in favor of the proposed tax increase, while 38.1 percent say they oppose it.
About 8 percent of respondents say they are unsure about the tax or declined to comment.
Southern Research Group of Jackson surveyed 472 people in all seven wards between April 27 and 29. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.5 percent. There are about 107,000 registered voters in Jackson.
