This was refreshing. A news conference was held. A coaching career ended. And everybody was happy.
Corky Palmer chose Thursday to step down as the baseball coach at Southern Miss, the only job he ever wanted. He wasn’t coerced. He wasn’t pushed out. He decided it was time.
“There comes a time when you have to do other things,” Palmer said, his eyes glistening. “I love baseball, but I just don’t have the energy anymore to attack this job like it needs.”
