Ala., La. show no love for Miss. schools
Mississippi drivers can now pay homage to Auburn University, the University of Alabama, the University of Memphis or LSU – by buying vanity plates that feature the universities’ logos.
But the states of Alabama and Louisiana have yet to return the favor. In fact, Alabama has passed legislation barring out-of-state university plates.
“Some states require reciprocity, but this is not in our statute,” said Kathy Waterbury, director of communications for the State Tax Commission.
Thousands of Mississippi residents have purchased vanity tags for these four out-of-state universities. So far, the University of Alabama leads the way in sales at 978.
