BATON ROUGE – The LSU men’s basketball team received a rare transfer from another Southeastern Conference school.

Malcolm White, a 6-foot-9 forward out of St. Helena Central High in the Baton Rouge area, sent in signed scholarship papers to LSU coach Trent Johnson, according to an LSU sports information department release. He will be eligible for the 2010-11 season as a junior and can practice with the Tigers during the 2009-10 season.

White started 27 games in the 2008-09 season at Ole Miss and averaged 7.2 points and 5.7 rebounds in 24.7 minutes a game. In SEC play, he scored 8.9 a game with 6.6 rebounds and started 15 of the 16 games.

LSU has signed several transfers over the years, but those are more commonly from smaller colleges or junior colleges.

White also blocked 43 shots last season, which was the most in Ole Miss history by a sophomore. He scored 20 points or more against Kentucky, Mississippi State and Auburn last season. His 18 rebounds against Auburn was the most by a Rebel player since 2003.
