Patience is key virtue for Dogs’ 1st-year coach

STARKVILLE — John Cohen’s Mississippi State Bulldogs entered Wednesday night’s game against Southern Miss with a 17-15 record, 4-8 in the SEC.
That’s not exactly a disaster, especially when you consider they finished 23-33 and 9-21 last season under Ron Polk. But you’d never know it listening to Cohen.

I’d call Cohen frustrated except the adjective doesn’t even begin to describe the depth of his chagrin after some recent losses. If you’ve been reading about the Diamond Dogs on these pages lately, you already know that. After Sunday’s particularly galling loss to Auburn during which Bulldog pitchers walked five straight batters and lost 12-9 late, Cohen cut his Bulldogs no slack whatsoever.
