The Power of Carolina Blue

Ask a fan to name the moment when North Carolina became the favorite to win the NCAA men’s basketball tournament and he’ll probably point to the day coach Roy Williams was hired or the day Tyler Hansbrough committed to play in Chapel Hill.

It could be, though, that the real turning point came in 1795, when the school’s Dialectic and Philanthropic literary societies were founded. One adopted light blue as its color, the other white, and in time those became the school’s colors.
