Jackson officials lobbying for funds

Jackson city council members traveled to Washington, D.C., on Monday to begin lobbying for almost $17 million from the federal government.

The requests are for several 2010 federal appropriations bills. Jackson is asking for help on a range of projects, including roadwork, utility improvements and public safety.

Council President Leslie Burl McLemore said the trip is a chance to explain the city’s needs to the local congressional delegation. He said many of the planned projects cannot be completed without federal help.

“It is pivotal,” McLemore said. “When we have the opportunity to go and visit with all of our congressional members, we make the case for the items that we are requesting.”
