Bellotti can help put Kelly in position to succeed
They think Chip Kelly is going to fall flat on his face. That he’ll fail. There are coaches in college football who believe the guy who wears the big backpack to work will choke badly on all the new responsibility.
Again, they’re hoping.
Oregon’s rivals can point to numerous football programs that slid after a successful coach handed the team over to an assistant.
But I don’t see that happening in Eugene, because Mike Bellotti will sit on Kelly’s shoulder offering oversight.
Bellotti announced on Friday that he’ll step down as football coach, and become athletic director on July 1. He’ll become the athletic department’s chief executive officer.
