When they work together, Coast legislators can move mountains
Rep. Diane Peranich, D-Pass Christian, and Sen. Billy Hewes III, R-Gulfport, did some heavy lifting on this bill this year, but it appears there was a South Mississippi team effort up there in Chimneyville. For many years, this area has been the brunt of jokes in Jackson. Lawmakers used to say, “If you oppose a Coast bill, just sit back and let Coast legislators fight amongst themselves and kill it.”
That appears to be changing, very quickly, since Hurricane Katrina forced this area to unite in many ways.
A very smart Coast business leader I know is fond of saying, “Pain is a powerful lubricant.”
