GAINESVILLE — Proof of how small the margin of error can be in college basketball can be offered in the case of the Florida Gators.
UF is on the bubble team for the NCAA Tournament, according to most experts. The Gators have lost seven games by six points or less, four of those by a 3-point basket or less.
Win just a third of those and Florida (21-8, 8-6 Southeastern Conference) would be playing for seeding at Mississippi State (17-12, 7-7) at 8 p.m. today. Instead, it’ll be two teams scratching for their NCAA Tournament lives.
“I’m not looking at it like that,” said sophomore guard Nick Calathes, averaging a team-best 18.4 points a game. “I’m looking at it like we’re going to make the tournament. And I think we will.”
Players were using the “P” word this week to describe their feelings. That’s not good.
“I would definitely say there is a sense of panic, a sense of urgency,” sophomore forward Chandler Parsons said.
But the players say it’s a panic in a good way.
Good way?
