Deliberations stalled Saturday after an “issue” was raised by the jury.
Jurors were scheduled to begin the fourth straight day of deliberations Saturday morning at the courthouse in downtown Jackson. Instead, U.S. District Judge Dan Jordan spent six hours interviewing jurors individually to “determine whether or not there is an issue that has to be addressed.”
“Ladies and gentlemen, as you know, though you have not been deliberating, we’ve had an active day,” Jordan told the jury.
The interviews were conducted privately in Jordan’s chambers. Attorneys on both sides, as well Melton and Recio, sat in on the questioning.
At the end of the day, no jurors were dismissed, and jurors appeared upbeat. Jordan gave parties on all sides until Monday to file motions relating to the problem. He said he would accept oral motions in court Monday.
