Recruiting fever still escalating

There’s a tie for the title of most absurd development in sports in the last 10 years. Both, not surprisingly, are a product of the explosion of interest in the recruitment of high school athletes.

In this corner, wearing a large robe of self-importance and a complete lack of humility, is the recruit who not only makes a production out of announcing which school he plans to attend, but also feels the need to expand his theatrics to disrespect the schools he will not attend. These days, when a college coach throws his hat into the ring, he better be ready to have it tossed to the floor and scoffed at on signing day if he doesn’t win the lottery for some players.
