You gotta admire the date pick

Federal court usually is a pretty dignified place. When you’re an attorney, a heightened sense of decorum seems inherent.

When you’re the defendant, it’s the Big Time of trouble.

Security is high and these folks, however friendly, aren’t messing around.

But somewhere in this sometimes austere place of laws and rules, a giggle or two creep in.

I believe that’s the case tomorrow – Friday the 13th – the date set by U.S. District Senior Judge Neal Biggers Jr. to sentence the final defendants in the legal soap opera which is “Scruggs I.”

If you don’t have a playbill, that’s the scandal which ensnared then-famed lawyer Richard “Dickie” Scruggs of Oxford, his son, a law partner and two others in a conspiracy to bribe Circuit Judge Henry Lackey of Calhoun City to help in a $26.5 million legal-fees lawsuit against Scruggs.
