A civil lawsuit against jailed former Oxford attorney Richard “Dickie” Scruggs and others lists “an officer of the United States Senate” as a conspirator to defraud attorney William Roberts Wilson Jr. of millions in legal fees.
The lawsuit doesn’t specify the senator by name, but the only person connected to the U.S. Senate who has been mentioned in a federal investigation of Scruggs is former Sen. Trent Lott.
A call to Lott’s Washington office, where he is a lobbyist, was not returned for comment. No accusations of criminal wrongdoing have been reported against him.
Wilson filed his lawsuit Monday in U.S. District Court in Oxford. The case was assigned to Senior Judge Neal Biggers Jr., who last year presided over judicial bribery charges and guilty pleas from Scruggs, his son Zach and a law partner.
