Don’t celebrate this bowl win, Seminoles
ORLANDO, FLA. — He ran to the spot with scissors in hand and utter elation on his face, bending down and cutting a chunk of sod out of the Citrus Bowl turf.
What a shame it has come to this.
The Florida State Seminoles, once the gold standard in college football, celebrating a meaningless bowl victory by placing the piece of sod in a plastic baggie and bringing it back to the famed “Sod Cemetery” in Tallahassee, where grass from previous key victories are planted.
Here’s the best part: Punter Graham Gano, the player coach Bobby Bowden said earlier this week he couldn’t live without, did the honors.
“We plant ’em in there and buy a $1,500 plaque to put over it,” Bowden said.
