How long is it going to take Gene Chizik to lead Auburn to a win over Alabama? As Pat Dye famously said when he was hired in 1981, “Sixty minutes.”
How long would it have taken for Chizik to begin to ease the feelings of the Auburn fans who fear their new coach will never establish their program as the best in the state? About 60 seconds. That’s how long it would have taken Chizik to publicly stand up to the new ultra-successful bully in the state and rally the Auburn Nation with a single purpose.
When asked at his introductory press conference what he thought of the challenge of facing rival Nick Saban at Alabama, Chizik gave the politically correct answer — something about competing every week against all the great programs and coaches in the SEC.
