Mullen’s the man: Recruits pumped about hire
MOBILE New Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen won’t officially take the reins in Starkville until he’s introduced at a rally at 10 a.m. today.
It hasn’t been determined if he’ll stay on the job as Florida’s offensive coordinator to help coach the Gators in the BCS national championship game against Oklahoma on Jan. 8 in Miami.
But he’s already received good news: Meridian quarterback Tyler Russell, who committed to MSU and former coach Sylvester Croom in April, is staying put.
Athletic director Greg Byrne spoke to Russell on Nov. 30, just hours after Croom’s resignation, telling the quarterback he was focused on hiring a head coach who could revitalize the Bulldogs’ struggling offense. MSU ranked 113th out of 119 Division I schools in total offense last season.
