METAIRIE, La. — Former Ole Miss head coach and current New Orleans Saints defensive line coach Ed Orgeron has been linked to a possible return to college football, with LSU and Tennessee being among the schools that may have interest in his services as an assistant coach.
Orgeron said he would always consider LSU or Tennessee if either school were interested, but hasn’t been contacted by anybody about a position.
“After every season in a coach’s life, there’s an evaluation and there’s always going to be options,” Orgeron said. “In my case, it’s my first year in the NFL. There’s speculation out there because Lane Kiffin and I are good friends and that’s the only thing about it. I haven’t been contacted by anybody about a job. I’m working hard to help the defensive line win against the Falcons.”
Saints coach Sean Payton said Tennessee had not asked the team for permission to speak with Orgeron.
Orgeron said did say with his Louisiana roots that he’d always consider talking to LSU about “a move up in the status of what I’m doing.”
“I love coaching in the NFL, but chasing the hunt this time of year of going to get the best player to commit to your team is always something I really enjoy,” Orgeron said.
