Mississippi’s Republican governor, Haley Barbour, says all Americans should hope that Democratic President-elect Barack Obama will be successful in handling the economy and other challenges.
Barbour says the Republican Party needs to take time and evaluate why it lost the presidency and lost seats in the U.S. House and Senate. He says it could take weeks, or even months, for the party to figure out the direction it needs to take to regain strength.
Barbour was Republican National Committee chairman in the mid-1990s and helped his party gain control of the both houses of Congress in 1994.
