Barbour, Musgrove campaign in DeSoto
Musgrove flew into the Olive Branch airport Monday morning, his first stop on an eight-city campaign tour, and spoke to supporters and the media.
He zeroed in on the economy, saying as he has crisscrossed the state, that’s the issue pressing all voters.
“I’ve heard from Mississippi families across the state,” Musgrove said. “They are nervous about their economic security. They’ve told me … that Washington politicians and their policies have failed us.”
He said he was the one to help put the economy “back on the right track. No more bad trade deals, no more borrowing money from China, no more special breaks for Wall Street, and no more investing Social Security money in the risky stock market,” Musgrove said.
Meanwhile, Wicker was campaigning on the Gulf Coast and did not attend the rally at his campaign office in Southaven.
But Barbour and Wicker’s family attended the event on Goodman Road.
“I am confident that Senator Wicker will win. The only threat is if people don’t turn out to vote,” Barbour told the crowd of about 30 Wicker supporters waving signs and cheering. “Senator Wicker has worked like a Trojan in this election.”
Barbour predicted a record turnout, especially in DeSoto County.
“In the last presidential election, DeSoto County had a turnout of 50,000 voters,” Barbour said. “In Tuesday’s election, I’m going to say that turnout will be close to 70,000.”
