Willingham has himself to blame (good piece)

Willingham Huskies coach to resign after season
I once heard from the pilot of a charter flight that ferried the Stanford football team to an away game.
The pilot said the Stanford team was remarkably well-mannered and Tyrone Willingham, then the Cardinal coach, came up to the flight crew, thanked them and presented them with Stanford caps.

The lasting image was a classy program run by a classy guy, which is how the seven-season Willingham era will be remembered at Stanford.

It didn’t translate at Notre Dame or Washington, where boosters and fans expected more and got less.
Willingham, 11-32 at Washington, announced Monday he will resign as the Huskies’ coach at the end of the season. He was forced out by an athletic administration that wants to get a head start on finding a replacement. The announcement made official what had been apparent for several weeks: the UW program is headed in the wrong direction and a change is necessary.

Washington is 0-7, joining North Texas as the only winless teams in the Football Bowl Subdivision. The Huskies haven’t been competitive for a month and opened the week as a 43-point underdog for Saturday’s game at No. 7 USC.
