15 fight change in club hours

By: Magnolia Tribune - October 28, 2008

The Clarion-Ledger, 10/28/8

Jackson club owners and opponents of a proposed uniform club closing ordinance tried to persuade the City Council one last time Monday evening that the ordinance would do more harm than good.

Nearly 20 people offered opinions during a public hearing about the ordinance – which would close all bars and nightclubs at 2 a.m. – including 15 people who opposed the ordinance and four people who were in favor of it.

Councilman Marshand Crisler said the City Council will decide whether to pass the proposal at its Nov. 4 meeting.

Those who spoke out against the ordinance were club owners, employees and patrons who said they would be directly affected financially or socially.
