KNOXVILLE – First, he jogged over to the far corner and pumped an exultant fist toward the Alabama band and a cluster of fans.
Then he went into a canter toward the opposite end zone. He was trailed by his brace of security guards, who seemed quite unprepared for an impromptu 100-yard dash.
As he ducked into a tunnel underneath the end zone stands, from which dozens of Alabama fans dangled like laundry, Nick Saban stuck both hands into the air, an index finger raised.
