It always comes back to football

Jeff Lebo is not so absorbed in basketball that he doesn’t know the country is having economic problems.
“I watch CNBC too,” said Lebo, Auburn’s head men’s basketball coach.
He’s not alone. Ask any coach who attended the first day of the Southeastern Conference’s gathering of basketball coaches Wednesday at the Marriott, and they all know what’s happening on Wall Street.

In 2006-07 the nation’s largest athletic departments and booster clubs raised more than $1.2 billion, according to a survey by The Chronicle of Higher Education. Some programs more than tripled their annual gifts over the last decade, with programs in the six BCS conferences raising more than $3.9 billion through capital campaigns for new facilities.
