Incumbent 1st District Rep. Travis Childers, a Democrat, and Republican challenger Greg Davis kept their word Wednesday night to not attack one another during a debate on the University of Mississippi campus.
Instead, they talked about their differences and issues that affect north Mississippians, among them the economy, health care, education and pork barrel spending.
Davis, the mayor of Southaven, is making a second run at Childers, who defeated him in a May 13 runoff to succeed Roger Wicker in the 1st District. Gov. Haley Barbour appointed Wicker to the Senate seat vacated by Trent Lott.
Wicker, a Republican, faces Democrat Ronnie Musgrove in the general election.
The economy was a key topic for both candidates.
