Tommy Bowden out as Clemson’s football coach

CLEMSON — CLEMSON – Tommy Bowden is out as Clemson’s head football coach in the wake of a spiraling start to a season in which he was expected to lead the Tigers to greatness.
According to multiple sources, receivers coach Dabo Swinney has been named interim coach and will be given an opportunity to keep the job depending on what happens the rest of the season.
It is not clear whether Bowden was terminated or whether he left on his own. A press conference is scheduled for 5:15 today.

Bowden signed a contract extension last December that pushed the deal through the 2014 season and his buyout to $4 million. The buyout was scheduled to go down to $3.5 million after Dec. 1.
