HATTIESBURG — Southern Miss quarterback Austin Davis is seeking redemption for his team on Saturday when No. 15 Boise State comes to town.
Following deflating defeats at home to Marshall and UTEP, he realizes that nothing can solve the problem better than a win over a Top 25 squad.
“It’s time for this team to step up and answer the challenge,” Davis said. “There are a lot of questions out there about our character and how we’re going to bounce back. It’s a great game to get it done.
“We let a few slip away, but we’re not going to lose focus. We know we can beat this team and we can beat every team if we do what we can do. I think this is a really good week to get back on track and I think the guys are ready for this one.”
Davis is putting up record numbers as the Eagles’ starting quarterback. He’s the first Golden Eagle freshman to start his career with five-straight 200-yard passing games, and the first USM quarterback to start a season with a similar run.
