No funeral, just a rebirth of Alabama’s national title hopes
ATHENS, Ga. – It wasn’t a funeral. Quite the opposite.
It was a rebirth.
Alabama welcomed thoughts of a national championship back into its world, as a once storied powerhouse took a monster step toward reclaiming a position among football’s elite.
No. 8 Alabama shocked No. 3 Georgia, 41-30 at Sanford Stadium on Saturday, sending the Bulldogs into the streets of Athens with their tails between their legs.
A 31-0 lead at halftime that silenced a would-be raucous crowd of 92,746 held up for coach Nick Saban, and the Crimson Tide (5-0) entered the Bowl Championship Series discussion for the first time since 2005.
“We had fun,” said left tackle Andre Smith, who helped clear the way for four rushing touchdowns. “We dominated.”
