Even though Joey Langston of Booneville and Timothy Balducci of New Albany were disbarred from practicing law and are admitted felons, they are expected in a New York court today trying to preserve the $14 million in legal fees they won in Worldcom’s bankruptcy settlement.
News of their appearance was reported Thursday by John O’Brien, who writes for Legal Newsline.
Langston and Balducci are represented by private attorneys.
They will try to convince district court Judge William Pauley that disputes arising from the Worldcom bankruptcy should stay in federal court.
They also insist the state of Mississippi, which sued on behalf of the Auditor’s Office in 2007, should have complained about the legal fees during the 2005 settlement talks. The settlement, reached for the state over allegedly owed back taxes, was worth more than $100 million.
