PARRISH ALFORD:Wild Rebel aside, run game still needs work

OXFORD – Brandon Bolden flew under the radar as a high school recruit, but two games into his freshman season it’s evident how much he means to the Ole Miss offense.
He was the Rebels’ only back to get anything done on the ground in the team’s 30-28 loss at No. 20 Wake Forest last week.
Some of that came from the Wild Rebel, some from the straight I-formation.
It will be important that Ole Miss begin to establish itself in the latter.
The running game is a focus of Houston Nutt and his staff as the Rebels prepare for Saturday’s game against Samford, an FCS team picked ninth in the Southern Conference.
Nutt talked Monday of some “simplification” of plays on both offense and defense, and this could be a good opportunity to gain some confidence in the run game.
Ole Miss rushed for 216 yards against Memphis, but much of that was from the Wild Rebel.
Nutt said the present inconsistency stems from both the offensive line and the backs.
