A months-long lull in the campaign for 1st District U.S. House of Representatives is over, and congressional candidates said they’re gearing up for the next battle as they approach the Nov. 4 general election.
Childers and Davis won the bulk of the votes in that election but neither got a clear majority. They then faced off in a May runoff election, where Childers won. The two men had fought a tight race that was closely watched by the national parties and often criticized by the region’s residents for being too negative.
Now, both sides stand ready for another match. But the Davis campaign said it will be a different race this time around.
“Everywhere we’ve gone, we’ve apologized for the mudslinging people went through,” the first time around, said Davis from his Tupelo campaign office. “So this time, we’ll focus on our differences and our message.”
