Saturday was a pretty good day for Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville. Not only did he record a 27-13 win over Southern Miss (box score), but he also settled on a starting quarterback and cleared up some of those pesky offensive questions that circulated after week one.
The Birmingham News’ Kevin Scarbinsky says to make no mistake though, Auburn will still be a defensive team first and foremost. Charles Goldberg, also from the News, writes that Todd’s arm strength is still a question mark since he suffered a separated shoulder last year.
Mark McCarter of The Huntsville Times writes that the Tigers’ offense is making solid progress, and Randy Kennedy of the Press-Register thinks Kodi Burns can make significant contributions as a change-of-pace quarterback.
McCarter writes of Jason Bosley’s move from center to tackle, and Evan Woodbery of the Press-Register leads his Auburn notebook with an item about the Tigers’ re-shuffled offensive line. The notebook also has items on Tristan Davis, Kodi Burns, Chris Slaughter and more.
Already this season, Robert Dunn is proving himself to be a very dangerous return man. He ran one back for a touchdown against La.-Monroe and had 103 punt return yards against the Golden Eagles. Randy Kennedy, of the Press-Register, takes a look at Dunn’s return style and the News’ Jon Solomon also has a sidebar on the man who calls himself “Frogger.”
