Mayor Frank Melton has hired the law firm of a former Republican state legislator to represent him in his federal trial, according to a court document filed Wednesday.
The one-page motion says The Law Offices of John Reeves of Jackson will represent Melton in court on Nov. 12.
Melton and his two former bodyguards, Jackson police Detectives Marcus Wright and Michael Recio, were indicted in July by a federal grand jury on charges related to the damage of a duplex on Ridgeway Street. The duplex was damaged by the mayor’s entourage on Aug. 26, 2006, during a police-style raid.
