As throughout his administration, Jackson Mayor Frank Melton has shown himself inadequate to the task of presenting a meaningful budget.
The City Council, again, is going to have to step in and build a budget from scratch.
It’s nothing new, though. The first year Melton was in office, you may recall, his budget called for a tax hike. But when his representative went before the Council and it was criticized, Melton chickened out and essentially said “never mind.” The Council had to craft the budget from scratch.
Last year, you may recall, Melton’s now-you-see-’em, now-you-don’t deficits that he tried to blame on the former administration had the Council wanting to hire a certified public account to decook the books.
