Melton’s home up for auction, again

By: Magnolia Tribune - August 22, 2008

Tax records show that Jackson Mayor Frank Melton owes $6,500 in back property taxes and the Hinds County tax collector has posted a notice that it will auction off the property with other delinquent lots at the Hinds County court house on Monday.

This week, the tax collector published the names of people who owe property taxes for 2007. Melton and his wife Ellen’s name appeared for their Northeast Jackson home.

This is the second time the mayor’s property has been on the auction block. Tax records show that in 2000 his house was sold, but the mayor paid nearly $1,500 to buy it back. When asked about that Thursday night, the mayor said that he didn’t remember that ever happening.
