Jackson lawyer Buddy Coxwell has withdrawn as attorney for Mayor Frank Melton.
In a two-page motion filed Monday in federal court, Coxwell informed U.S. District Judge Daniel Jordan that he and the mayor had been unable to reach terms for Coxwell’s continued employment.
Coxwell’s departure leaves Wright as the only defendant with a lawyer in the case. Last week, John D. Moore of Ridgeland filed to withdraw as Recio’s attorney.
Trial for the three men is set for Nov. 12. If convicted on all counts, Melton and his bodyguards could face up to 25 years in prison.
