A special election to fill a vacancy left by the resignation of Rep. Daniel “Danny” Guice Jr. of Ocean Springs is scheduled Sept. 23.
Gov. Haley Barbour announced the special election Monday.
Guice served in the Legislature since 1984 before he was appointed by Barbour to fill a vacant four-year term on the Mississippi Parole Board. Under Mississippi law, Guice was not allowed to concurrently serve as a member of the House of Representatives and the State Parole Board, according to a news release from the governor’s office.
