City leaders have millions of dollars worth of ideas about how to improve Jackson next fiscal year – including more street resurfacing projects and more summer jobs for teenagers.
They just can’t agree on how to pay for them.
The 2008-09 budget process begins today, when city staff members hand a proposed budget to council members and the mayor. The council will have until Sept. 15 to finalize the budget. The next fiscal year starts Oct. 1.
On the lists: more money to repair city streets and to demolish rundown houses, more funding for an expanded summer youth employment program and a pay raise for city employees.
