Mayor carries on as normal amid charges
“I’m at the point where I’m just tired of it. I’m just flat tired of it. It’s not right; it’s not fair,” Melton said Monday. “Mistakes may have been made, but not a mistake against a human being. This is not a criminal issue. It’s a civil issue.”
Melton said he has offered to rebuild the house “better than it is right now.” He said he would be reluctant to do so now because there is so much drug activity in the neighborhood.
“Certainly I’m going to be there (Wednesday). I’m not going to be a fugitive. But I’m just struggling with it,” he said. “I don’t want to spend $1 million on this thing, because there is no question that’s what it is going to cost me. It is what it is, and I’m struggling with it. There is no question about that.”
