By: Magnolia Tribune - July 13, 2008

Franks elected Miss. Democratic Party chairman

Running unopposed, 35-year-old Jamie Franks elected chairman of the Mississippi Democratic Party on Saturday.

Franks served in the state House from 1996-2008.

He was elected at the Democratic Party State Executive Committee meeting Saturday in Jackson.

Franks said the party is in a good position to take back both U.S. Senate seats. Franks said former Gov. Ronnie Musgrove is running a strong race for the seat held by Republican Senator Roger Wicker, and Erik Fleming is doing the same against Republican Senator Thad Cochran.

Canton attorney and former state senator Barbara Blackmon was elected vice chair, and Ed Nave of Scooba was elected executive vice chair. Also elected: Batesville attorney Mona Pittman as secretary, Vicksburg attorney Paul Winfield as treasurer and Jackson attorney and state Representative Earle Banks as parliamentarian.
