Next year’s elections for Jackson are crucial

By: Magnolia Tribune - June 30, 2008

The Clarion-Ledger Editorial, 6/29/8

In only about a year from now , Jackson will be getting a new city government.

On July 6, 2009, a mayor and seven City Council members chosen by voters will take the oath to carry out the functions of running the Capital City to the best of their abilities.

Can you imagine yourself taking that oath? Think you might have those abilities? Want a shot at fixing those problems you gripe about all the time?

The qualifying deadline for next year’s city elections will be March 6 and the first primary is May 5. But now is the time for those who might be thinking about running to begin deciding and planning a campaign.
