Auburn University 20th in Directors’ Cup standings

Alabama moved up and Auburn held its own in this year’s national Directors’ Cup standings, and that means the two rivals each finished in the Top 25 in the tabulations designed to acknowledge the top collegiate athletics program in the country.
Stanford won the Directors’ Cup for the 14th straight year. Auburn finished 20th after taking 19th last year. Alabama finished 25th after checking in at 43rd last season.
Auburn was the fifth-highest ranked team from the Southeastern Conference. Alabama was the seventh highest-ranked SEC school.

The Directors’ Cup tracks 36 sports, including activities foreign to the SEC such as water polo and skiing. Schools can count only their top 20 sports. Auburn’s best finish was second in women’s swimming. Alabama’s best finish was in softball, in which it finished third.
Closer to home, Auburn and Alabama finished in the middle of the pack in the annual SEC All-Sports Trophy compiled by the Gainesville Sun.
Auburn was fifth overall by finishing fifth in women’s sports and sixth in men’s sports. Alabama was sixth overall after finishing fifth in men’s sports and eighth in women’s sports.
Florida won the SEC All-Sports Trophy for the 16th time in the last 17 years. The Gators were followed this year by Georgia, Tennessee and LSU.
